The Osaka Yodogawa Citizens’ Marathon began in 1997 as a community-driven event created by the citizens themselves, with the primary purpose of encouraging public participation and the joy of finishing the race. This marathon is open to people of all ages and genders; it does not prioritize winning or running fast, but rather aims to be an event that anyone can enjoy casually. It is not only Japan’s first citizen-organized, community-driven marathon but also the first marathon in Japan to run exclusively along the riverbank. By running through the Yodogawa River Park, which serves as the course, we aim to raise awareness of the natural environment of the Yodogawa River basin and create an eco-marathon that prioritizes both runners’ health and the running environment. Based on themes such as “people,” “environment,” and “the Yodogawa River”—concepts rarely emphasized in traditional marathons—the entire staff sincerely hopes you will enjoy this event.
